Shelby County Mayor’s Office on Aging
In cooperation with the Aging Commission, the Shelby County Mayor’s Office on Aging offers three services to the older residents of Shelby County. This department produces the Senior Information Handbook, coordinates the Fans for Seniors Program and administers the Wheel Tax Rebate program.
The Senior Information Handbook is published annually as a guide to local resources. It is distributed free of charge and made available at many local events. It is available for download on our home page or you can contact the Senior Information Line at 901-324-3399 to request that one be mailed to you.
The Fans for Seniors Program provides box fans to seniors over the age of 65 and to adults with disabilities who have been referred by local agencies. The fans are purchased with funds provided by Shelby County government, as well as donations from local civic groups, businesses and individuals. Volunteers generously give of their time to deliver fans, from mid-June through mid-September.
The Wheel Tax Rebate Program was established by the Shelby County Commission to provide a rebate to older persons and persons with disabilities, on the charges that they pay every year for their automobile license tags. The program is designed to assist indiiduals with an annual maximum income of $25,000.00. Application forms are available at the County Clerk's office or at the Aging Commission of the Mid-South offices.
